Neighbourhood RecordsMore about Neighbourhood
We are Neighbourhood. A small Australian record label with a big heart.
Neighbourhood is a collection of artists we love, we adore and we nurture. For those who may not know, a label is a vessel to assist an artist to release their music.
Neighbourhood was born late 2015, we quickly signed some amazing acts, including Dirty Cameron, Nicole Cross, Sam Wright and Crom and most recently an international act, Polarsets (UK).
We love our artists, and we hope you do too.
Nicole Cross crafts quirky folk tunes that take you though a maze of melodic twists and turns. In a past life, Nicole spent her days legally distributing prescription drugs as a pharmacist. She has hung up her white coat for good and replaced it with a guitar strap.
Nicole’s debut EP “Little Birds” was released October 24th 2015 through Independent record label “Neighbourhood”. Soon after her EP release, in November 2015, her track “White Walls” took out the Play Mullum Songwriting competition, gaining her a spot at the Mullum Music Festival. Australian publication The Music states, “An ambling, affable easy-listening cut comprised of restrained, largely acoustic instrumentation, floating back-up harmonies and introspective, storyteller-like lyrics. It’s delicate, it’s delightful – TheMusic.com”.
The Townsville born Singer Songwriter released a new single ‘Holiday’, in May 2016, one week prior to her spot on the line up at Townsville’s Groovin The Moo. The track is the first single to be released from her forthcoming EP, set to be released in the second half of 2016.
‘Holiday’ provides an introspective view into the pain and frustration associated with suffering from a mental illness. Nicole aims to raise awareness for this prominent issue through the release of “Holiday” through a campaign to raise funds for the organisation Headspace.
Sam Wright is generally found twiddling knobs in dimly lit studios. Sam is a producer, musician and owner of NQ studio, The Rec Room. September 2014 saw the release of his debut EP, ‘Year of the Horse’.
1st May 2015, Sam released a single ‘Make It So’ which received excellent reviews from Triple J, Channel V, The Music, and many community radio stations. With the reviews flowing in, one important reviewer mentioned something about the band Custard, another important reviewer likened the sound to artist Mac Demarco AND another equally important reviewer labelled his sound “gorgeous bittersweet roots-tinged pop”. Mid 2015 Sam won the Triple J Unearthed competition to play at Townsville’s Groovin The Moo 2015.
An album release is set in motion for 2016, the wheels are turning, and it’s exciting. It is to be released mid year through Neighbourhood records.
UK Indie pop act Polarsets are back this summer with their second album ‘Horizon’ due for Australian release through Neighbourhood Records. Horizon follows the 2014 release of their debut ‘Parasols’ after a bunch of singles on labels such as Kitsune, Neon Gold and Moda, and showcases a more mature and organic side to the band.
“Horizon is all about journeys. A lot has changed for us since the last record, and this new record reflects that,” says Rob. “We all live separate lives now, but there’s something that still excites and inspires me about working with this particular group of people. We’ve still got a lot to say and a lot of journeys to take together”.
“Dirty Cameron is not what you expected.
Dirty Cameron is not even what you want.
But, in time, you may realise that Dirty Cameron is what you need.”
Dirty Cameron is releasing their debut EP in September 2016
Crom is a mystery man, a wanderer, an introvert.
His beautiful melodies will spice up your love life.
